"She went home with someone else that night?"Hearing the disbelief from my best friend's mouth makes the events of my failed date sting that much more. I would like to make it known, I have a lot more swagger than what it seems. I don't normally ask a girl out, have her fail to recognize it's a date, and then give me a high five--as if I'm her wingman--and take off with someone else. No. Normally I'm the one taking the girl home but with Stella, it's been one failed attempt after another and frankly, I'm done trying. But thanks to my best friend getting married in Hawaii right before the school year starts, I'm stuck on a tropical island, watching Stella parade around in what she claims is a bathing suit. Unfortunately, that's not the worst of it, just the tip of the iceberg. Because what I think is going to be a relaxing vacation, avoiding the one girl I can't seem to make it work with, has turned into a spectacle of being recruited as Stella's doting fake fiancé so she can save face with an old "friend" from high school. Now I'm navigating through purgatory while trying not to get turned on by the way she holds my hand or kisses my jaw. It's all fake, that's what I keep telling myself, even though it feels entirely too real.Note from author: This book is a smattering of tropes: Enemies to lovers, turned friends to lovers, and also coworkers to lovers. Not to mention, a fake fiancé romance that takes place in Maui and Chicago. Lots of heat--a balcony scene that will make you blush--absurdly funny pranks, best supporting cast, a surprise "mom" you'll never see coming, and a grumbly guss of a hero who can't stop pining after his girl. Enjoy!… (més)

Stella and Romeo are in Hawaii for the destination wedding of friends, Arlo and Greer. Stella is still oblivious to the fact that Romeo has been carrying a torch for her for years. When Stella runs into her estranged father who she discovers is engaged to her nemesis from high school, she decides to even the score by saying that Romeo is her fiance. Convincing him to participate in the charade is easier than she expects, but Romeo decides that this might be an opportunity to settle the differences that have kept them apart and maybe begin a real relationship.

I have very mixed feelings about Earn Your Extra Credit. When Stella and Romeo are together, the tone of the story is fun and flirty with well written sensual scenes. However, when the two protagonists are apart, characters act irrationally, saying and doing things that don't make much sense, which makes it difficult to really understand them and their motivations. Also, the inclusion of Stella's father and his fiance throws an odd dynamic into the story that never really seems to fit. Overall, Earn Your Extra Credit is a good story that would have been much better with more consistency in the execution. ( )

Earn Your Extra Credit is Romeo and Stella's friends to enemies to lovers story. There is so much to like about this book. Particularly, the humor. There were so many laugh out loud moments between the two main characters and their quirky group of friends. There were also some really sweet and heartfelt moments as well. I was emotionally all over the place. I felt so bad for Romeo but at some point I was thinking that he was bringing much of his heartache on himself. Stella really had family issues she had not emotionally dealt with and it was clear that it was affecting her ability to have a true relationship.

I listened to the audiobook version of this book and I am so glad I did. Although Erin Mallon is usually great, she absolutely knocked this one out of the park. Her comedic timing is the best in the business and it really shone through. At the same time, she delivers emotion in a way that makes me feel it myself. Sebastian York was also particularly good in this book. He is also very good at comedy and I feel like really delivered. ( )
