I Just Forgot (A Little Critter Book) (1988 original; edició 1999)

This book is about a child who continually starts something and then forgets to finish it. This book is a light hearted read and makes me reminisce when my kids were little. This book is just makes me smile. ( )

I recall reading a lot of the fictional "A Little Critter Book"'s. I always disliked the way the critters were illustrated, which made me not fond of this series. Regardless of my personal history with this children's series, I did not particularly enjoy this book "I Just Forgot," either. The child critter has chores and responsibilities he has to tend to, and does some, but doesn't do some other. He repeatedly says "I just forgot" as a general narration and as a response to his mother. I would not like to show my students or my personal children because it does not represent how children should behave, or especially how they should respond to their caretaker. The child critter acts as though "I just forgot" is a legitimate excuse for not doing certain things, which I do not find acceptable and disrespectful. I believe this book did not intend to depict the child critter like this, but I would be cautious of young readers modeling from the character's actions. Also, there are other Critter Books that do represent good habits for young readers. ( )
