I received this book as an Early Reader. This was a cute, little book about a cat who goes outside to get help for her owner. It was cute. I think younger kids would really like it. I think it’s a bit young for anyone over 10. My third graders would love it! ( )Ressenya escrita per a CrÃtics Matiners de LibraryThing . This was a short and cute story about a cat who goes on an adventure to help her owner. Haven, the cat, lives with an older woman named Ma Millie, in a little cottage out of town. She was found when she was a kitten and loves the human who took her in. Now Ma Millie is very sick, and Haven has to venture out of the house to get her help. In order to do so she has to go through the forest into town and lucky for her a little fox decides to help her. They are also being tracked by a bobcat though and so their outing could be dangerous. This was a fun story about unlikely friendships and love. Haven is determined to get help for her owner regardless of her own safety and comfort. She is tested along the way and must overcome so many struggles. It was a beautiful book about powering through when you feel strongly about a mission/adventure. While the ending was a little sad, it was also comforting in a way. I think that pet lovers of all ages will enjoy this book and the little cat. Ressenya escrita per a CrÃtics Matiners de LibraryThing . Haven is a stray who has been taken in by an elderly woman. When the woman falls ill, Haven risks everything to travel to town and find help. Finding an unlikely ally in a fox they look out for each other even when there is a deadlier predator on their tail. Sweet story that looks at friendship, teamwork and being brave when the odds are against you. The author doesn't sugarcoat the necessary violence found in nature but it is not overly graphic either in this slim novel. My thanks to the publisher for the advance copy. Ressenya escrita per a CrÃtics Matiners de LibraryThing . This is a beautifully written story of love, loss, and grief. The story follows Haven, a housecat who goes on a brave adventure to save her beloved person, Ma Mille. As Ma Mille's cough worsens Haven knows she must leave to find help. But she's "only a small cat. The forest and outdoors were big." Would it be enough to help her human? Haven's love and determination to achieve her goal drive the text and create a page-turner. While the writing is simple and may seem choppy at times to an adult reader, the tenderness of Haven's love for Ma Mille shines through. It is a story that will touch the hearts of any cat-lover. For middle grade readers, it may help open discussions of illness, grief, unexpected friendships, and love. Ressenya escrita per a CrÃtics Matiners de LibraryThing . Heart, inspiration, and warmth make this a book to cuddle up with and dream of big adventures and the vast world beyond the backyard.Haven is a content cat. After being abandoned in the woods, she was accepted into Ma Millie's home. There's isn't a better home that Haven could have asked for. When Ma Millie falls ill and help isn't nearby, Haven knows it's her turn to return the favor. Setting off to find assistance, Haven has no idea how many dangers she's about to face, nor can she even suspect what great friendship lies in store. This is one of those animal books to fall in love with and enjoy from beginning to end. It's written for the lower end of the middle grade audience, and even suitable for those who are ready to leave the chapter book world. The chapters are short, the vocabulary isn't too hard but offers a little challenge, and the flow keeps boredom away. There are some more tense scenes, which might bother very sensitive readers, but most readers will enjoy the added adventure and find themselves at the edge of their seat. The writing grabs right away and keeps the reader in the pages the whole way through. The scenes come to life as the odor of fresh bread or forest scenes bring a nice vividness, and that without bogging down with heavy descriptions. There's always something going on to drive the tale forward. Add Haven as a cat to root for, and an unexpected friendship, and there's more to love than just the heroism and exciting moments. Even the end touches the heart and leaves on a bitter-sweet note, which isn't quickly forgotten. It's an easy read and packs enough adventure to even interest those readers, who aren't normally animal-story fans. I received an ARC and enjoyed Haven's adventures quite a bit.
