( ) A heartfelt and heart wrenching story with a mix of verse and prose that tells the story of the aftermath of Angel’s toxic relationship with her boyfriend and her mother. She’s sent across the country to live with her Uncle who takes his time in letting her find her footing. She’s enrolled in a new school where she finds the magic of reading books that represent her and what she has gone through. I really liked how Ms. Browne had Angel connect the books to music to express how they made an impact on her. The only downside was that the ending just fell flat. I felt that there was much more to the story, not just Angel’s but her Uncle’s, her mother’s and even the friends that she made. It ended too quickly. Let’s hope for more. There, Angel??s classmates share their own stories of pain, joy, and fortitude. And as Angel becomes immersed in her revolutionary literature course, the words from Black writers like Toni Morrison, James Baldwin, and Zora NEale Hurston speak to her and begin to heal the wounds of her past. This stunning novel weaves together prose, poems, and vignettes to tell the story of Angel, a young woman whose past was shaped by domestic violence but whose love of language and music and the gift of community grant her the chance to f No s'han trobat descripcions de biblioteca. |
