I didn't connect with this one as well, I just wasn't caught up in it. And I didn't care for the time jumping around. Also "bad actors" was used with kind of an overly heavy hand. I get it, it's the title, but you needn't hit us over the head with it.
Overall I still really wish things evolved more from book to book. People come and go, but those that remain, stay basically the same. They haven't learned to work more as a team, whatever Slough House does, they're basically in the same standing in the next book. I'm entertained, but it could be really great if things evolved more from book to book. ( )
Schemes are afoot to centralize power into the PM's orbit, under the control of one Sparrow, but more, creating a precedent for the PM to appoint his or her own cronies to posts that would manage everything including MI5 (and 6, I am sure). One part includes deposing 'the Red Queen' (guess who!). Large and dastardly, and actually seriously bad for democratic governance should the scheme succeed. So naturally too the Slough House crew is in the thick of things.

For the most part, this seems like a water-treading exercise as Herron decides what to do about the events of the previous book, but at least it's funny! My favorite bits were the Khan/Lamb covert lunch battle (with Roddy Ho as collateral damage) and the odd couple pairing of Claude Whelan and Shirley Dander in the latter half. Weird, but entertaining. I sure hope we get some more of these! ( )
An exciting finish, after a disjointed beginning. The story's structure/construction confused me, but the conclusion made up for it. I missed River Cartwright though. I'm ready for the next instalment in the Slough House saga.. ( )
