Presents the adventures of Mowgli, a boy reared by a pack of wolves and the wild animals of the jungle. Also includes other short stories set in India.
I found myself a bit torn by this book. On one level enjoyed the stories and the characters in them. Both human and non human. But on another level I was a quite offended by the sense of upper class British Imperialism that comes through in Kipling's work. I got a real sense that Kipling felt that the British were actually doing the natives of India a favor by taking over their lands and teaching them how to tame the Jungle. ( )
The jungle book is a classic read that is written with lots of thee, thy, and thou. Rudyard kipling tells the reader the story like he is actually the one reading to you. I quite liked it.
Very unlike to the cartoon version this book is serious and full of learning. Mowgli must kill sheer khan and put his pelt on the meet rock for his wolves acceptance.
Overall a short read that was worth reading, the book i have also has a few other tales by kipling which i will read at a later date =] ( )
More adult level than I thought. Mowgli is like a Tarzan with the wolves and Kaa is a friend. Some stories are in a different place completely with different characters. Mostly good reading. Not like Disney at all. ( )

It was seven o' clock of a very warm evening in the Seeonee hills when Father Wolf woke up from his days rest, scratched himself, yawned, and spread out his paws one after the other to get rid of the sleepy feeling in their tips.
