My Evil Mother: A Short Story (edició 2022)

A study in mother/daughter relationships by one of my favorite authors. You cannot beat Atwood's early work, so I try not to judge the later things against it. ( )

I did not care for this story. It felt like it was trying too hard to be meaningful, and yet failing. I think at this point I can say for sure that Atwood's style is not for me. I didn't enjoy reading her Oryx and Crake, but I wanted to try other work of hers too. Now I have, and I will probably not try anything more since I had the same reaction to both pieces. ( )

A wonderful short story describing a daughter's impressions of her mother as a teenager and how this impacts on her life and parenting. Entertaining, funny and engaging. Atwood never fails to produce the good. ( )

A single mother and her teenage daughter live in a northern neighborhood of Toronto but the story is germane to all mothers and daughters in their teenage years. The author's selection of the 1950s is effective for descriptions of norms of the time period.

For the "Kindle Spring 2022 Challenge" readers were to select a science fiction or fantasy Kindle book to unlock the "Final Frontier" achievement. Neither genre is a usual selection of reading for me. Browsing the list, a short story by Margaret Atwood was an easy choice and in reading not a moment of disappointment. It was easy to read in one sitting. ( )

Another short story that's been on my list for a hot second now. Not a lot to say but it was a good story. I really liked it and the storyline was really good. I recommend this for people who want a quick read. ( )
