Exceedingly cute, over too quickly. The story's only just getting started!!

I think I saw bits of this comic online a year or two ago - I guess I could find the website and read more, but in a way I want to just wait until the next one comes out.

Reread for in-person LGBTQ+ book club. This time through I was struck by the creative use of panel shapes which mirror the emotions the characters are feeling. I also found Charlie’s internal struggles to be more poignant. Finally, I enjoyed seeing remnants of web-comic format in the print copy, like reintroducing side characters. For instance Tao is noted as (Friend). ( )

Alice Oseman does such an incredible job getting conversations and ideas across without using words. The reader always knows what the characters are thinking and feeling, even if all they "say" are exclamation points or emojis. ( )

The stars of Heartstopper are cast in an alternate universe sci-fi drama where Charlie Spring is a police detective traumatized by an attack on him by his last android partner and Nick is the new and improved android assigned to him. It's riffing on a video game I have never played or even heard of called Detroit: Become Human, but my ignorance did not keep me from enjoying this story because it is totally carried by Nick and Charlie being totally adorable in any universe or time period.
