4.5 I would love to see this as a movie. Great characters, twisted and twisted some more, just when you think you know, you don't. I trusted, I believed, I was such a fool. I didn't know anything, What a ride ! Read it, Know there is a wonderful cliffhanger that will make you scream and clap. ( )

This was mid.
The character oak did nothing for me (the hooves just had me stressing, can you imagine if he accidentally stepped on your toes?)
Suren was ok / having shark teeth was a bit much and a lot of the time I really didn’t understand her choices especially regarding her original family.
There was just a lot of stuff that didn’t connect.
The romance was nonexistent - zero chemistry, not interested at all. The only character that was semi interesting was bogdana.
I didn’t care about the plot either, the best parts were the mentions of Jude and cardan. I’ll still continue but half heartedly. ( )

First in the Elfhame world I've read. Easy to get into, interesting cast of characters and creatures, plenty of action and an intriguing finish. ( )

Wren is an outcast of Faerie with deeps ties to the mortal world. She has to go a on a quest with her frenemy, Prince Oak.

I really enjoyed this book while reading it. Afterwards, it annoyed me how much it was similar in plot to [b:The Cruel Prince|26032825|The Cruel Prince (The Folk of the Air, #1)|Holly Black|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1574535986l/26032825._SY75_.jpg|45959123]. Perhaps the second book will go in differently since this novel is part of a duology instead of a trilogy.

Suren's been living on scraps of dreams and scraps of life. She's circling the edges of who she was and who she could be. Oak shows up and sparks something within her, that allows her to become what she can be. The ending isn't what I'd hoped for, however, and I can only hope that the next book gives me what I want, because I am greedy for happy endings. ( )
