This was okay. Nothing new or groundbreaking. It wasn’t all that helpful for me or my situation. ( )

Both men as well as women should read this book. It focuses on how symptoms we commonly refer to as menopause symptoms are derived from not properly understanding the female body, however the solutions that are proposed could be extended to apply to both genders. In particular the discussion on our mitochondria, endothelial functions, and immune symptoms, and probably also others. For women in particular the book is relevant because much can be done preventively so that the really hard-hitting symptoms do not have to occur. I would recommend this book to anyone over 35, since there is much we can do to age gracefully, and that begins with properly understanding ourselves and how our bodies function. ( )

Menopause is a natural process of our bodies

Human bodies work according to specified systems that must be maintained unless they become defective and cause conditions such as menopause. Menopause is a particularly bedeviling condition because the symptoms of menopause are caused by defects in systems that are crucial to bodily health, such as in the GI system, in our vascular system, in our mitochondria and in our immunity.

This book does a great job in tying our bodies' various systems together to demonstrate how the symptoms of menopause arise when we do not properly take care of ourselves. The book provides simple basic guidelines we can follow to ensure that we are prepared in menopause, and symptoms do not derail our health. ( )

The book was very helpful to me since there are not too many books that focus on the science of menopause. First, the book helped me understand that certain uncomfortable bodily symptoms were common (even if such symptoms are not generally discussed with family and friends). Second, the book introduced me to many scientific terms and concepts underlying the body's changes before, during and after menopause. Third, the book provided me a strong reminder of beneficial/healthy practices - not new advice (e.g., eat healthy, move more, be mindful, meditate, get some sun, etc...) - but the book provided additional science- based grounds on why one should execute such advice. Please note that the book is more an "overview" book intended for a general audience and is not a deep "paper" dive for a medical professional audience. The book contains a lot of scientific terms which makes for "dense" (but highly educational) reading (though not a long book per se) for a non-medical professional. For purposes of full disclosure, I have received a free advance review copy of the book.
