as i said before she wanted it to be like a screenplay and it suck big time ( )

What would you do if you found out you were an actual descendant of very powerful ancestors who were actual pharaohs of Egypt? Three teenage girls: Sudi, Meri, and Dalila live in modern day Washington D.C and they are about to find out this shocking revelation. Everything they thought they knew about themselves changes completely as they come to terms with the fact that they have a mission, to fight against an evil cult called The Cult of Anubis.

The story is told in 3rd person but from Sudi's point of view. The reader learns that Sudi has recently broken up with her boyfriend Brian and there are rumors going around at her school that she's desperate to have Brian back when in reality she doesn't. As Sudi is digging through her locker after school she stumbles upon a note stating that she is to go to the lavish restaurant Sky Terrace.

Her mind automatically thinks of Brain and she heads off for the restaurant. When she arrives she realizes that the note was not from him but from a man name Abdel who is accompanied by two girls: Meri, and Delila. At that moment Abdel tells the three girls that they are the descendent's of powerful ancestors who were pharaoh's of Ancient Egypt. He hands the girls each a Papyrus that holds ancient spells that they must master in order to use against the evil cult of Anubis which plans on destroying the girls and ending the ancient bloodline of Horus.

The girls don't believe Abdel and Meri creates chaos in the restaurant so she and the other girls can get away from Abdel, but before they can escape, Abdel approaches each girl and whispers to them in an Ancient Language that awakens the magic hidden within them. When they escape the restaurant, Sudi starts to realize that something has changed about her. She can understand and read hieroglyphics and she can cast the spells within the Papyrus.

I thought this story had a lot of potential to create a memorable start for this series. Girls, ancient Egypt, and magic- My idea of a wicked cool Girl Power book! I love anything dealing with Ancient Egypt and when i stumbled upon this book while browsing through the bargain books in Barnes and Noble i felt that i would enjoy this story. It was good and interesting story but i still feel disappointed. The story is a quick read but it fails to develop the characters and some of the action sequences were hard to understand or imagine. I also did get irritated by Sudi a few times because i could not understand why she did some of the things she did.

I might read the other books in the series, in total there are 4 books. I would recommend reading this book, it wasn't horrible but i felt that it could have been written a little bit better, perhaps longer. Hopefully the other books in the series improve in these minor flaws. ( )

We all remember the enchanting world that Lynne Ewing had brought us in THE DAUGHTERS OF THE MOON and then in SONS OF THE DARK. And now Ewing does it again with her new series, SISTERS OF ISIS.

Sudi never thought that one note could change her life; she just thought it would give her a chance at dating her longtime crush, Scott. But that note that fell out of her locker was not from Scott. Instead of Scott at the nice restaurant, he's replaced with Abdel and two other girls. Abdel was sent by the Hour Priest, a secret Egyptian society, to tell Sudi, along with Meri and Dalila, that they are all descendants of the Egyptian Pharaohs and have powers that only they can use to stop the Cult of Anubis.

Like any other teenager, none of the girls believe Abdel--just think Mia Thermopolis discovering she was a princess (SHUT UP!). As each girl tries to get away from Abdel, he makes sure that they each get a scroll, but of course they think nothing of it. Curiosity takes over, though, and before they know it, all three girls turn into unusual creatures: Sudi, a bird; Meri, a cat; and Dalila, a cobra. Their destiny has been set for them and if they still don't believe it, maybe the evil forces will help them figure it out.

THE SUMMONING is another great read from Lynne Ewing. The tales that Ewing brews up and the world that she creates in the SISTERS OF ISIS is even more imaginative and creative. Reading THE SUMMONING just reminds me of how Ewing can take the reader out of reality and into a fantasy that not only haunts but amazes them. THE SUMMONING is only the beginning and the next novel should be just as amazing. ( )

I absolutely love this author and her other two series - Daughters of the Moon and Sons of the Dark. This series is a nice change from those, but with that same urgency of saving the world. This time though, three girls are descendants of pharoahs and forced into battling Egyptian gods, mummies and other such creatures as well as a cult of priests conjuring them up. There's romance as well and takes place when the three girls are in high school. I'm already addicted to the series. ( )
