I hope children learn the timelines of history more effectively now than when I was a child. ?áFrom this I learned that the Sierra are only about 10M years old, and the glaciers younger than that. ?áThat's not long ago at all compared to dinosaurs. ?á(Not to mention, to say dinosaurs failed is just plain wrong, when one thinks of how long they've lived compared to us, and when one realizes that birds are basically feathered dinos.) I also appreciate the low-key reminders that predatory animals are not wicked, and that wildfire is key to a healthy ecosystem. Anyway, this book is indeed gorgeous as well as educational, and it would be a joy to read it aloud to a classroom. ?áI will definitely look for more in the 'series.' This book is a poetry book about the mountains. It's captures a lot of the scenes in nature and explains them beautifully. All the poetry rhymes which is great for children. I think that this was beautifully written and can really grab the attention of children. Some of the descriptions they may have questions about but all the paintings in the book allow for clues for understanding. Classroom extension: I would have the students recreate a picture from nature that they have seen themselves and then tell the class about their painting. Or, I would have them paint their picture and then also write a poem to complement their picture. "In this celebration of the American landscape, Siebert's measured verses convey the majesty of the mountain personified, Sierra herself. Minor's stunning acrylic paintings evoke the breathtaking beauty of his subject. There is a siren's-song quality to this lovely book and readers might well feel how tragically possible it is for us to love our wilderness to death."***SRC Quiz*** Sense ressenyes | afegeix-hi una ressenya
