The dialogue-driven story follows Myaisha when a murder interrupts her writing. This is a slow-burn investigative story from a doctor's point of view. However, the Myaisha often looks at the case like a mystery writer instead of a medical doctor.

Unfortunately, this was a DNF for me.
I couldn't get as into the mystery as I would like and the characters didn't draw me in.
With a good line edit and maybe a few beta readers, this could turn into a good book for someone who finds books with medical elements interesting. ( )

According to her bio, the author is a medical doctor, but this book is not in the same genre as the ones by physicians like Tess Gerritsen and Robin Cook. This is definitely more of a cozy mystery.
--I wasn't a huge fan of the writing style, since most of the book was dialogue between the characters (which was somewhat soap-opera style) or internal musings of the ringleader of the women's mystery writing/amateur detective group
--this was an early release copy, so maybe there are still some edits to be made, but little things like describing "chest percussions" instead of compressions during CPR or writing on page 247 "Having been in the office many times before" and then on page 250, "How long had it been since she'd visited Rene's offices? Probably not since....Rene' generally came to her place." made me feel like this was written in a rushed manner.
--for a doctor, the main character spends very little time in her actual pediatric practice other than maybe one paragraph describing her rushing into an exam room because she was running late due to being out investigating the night prior
--SOOOO many characters, but no real depth to any of them. The male characters' main reasons for inclusion are for the author to detail what junk food they're eating and to point out how attractive they are to the female mystery writing group members
--Overall, not a bad read, just not a great one. If you're paying attention at all while reading, the ending isn't going to be any surprise. ( )
