Consider this to be a review of the three book series, as each book is fantastic, stands on its own, and seriously builds both world and story. Some really grim stuff in here, but absolutely worth every word. ( ![]() Brilliant series. Many thanks to Tessa for the recommendation. Heerlijk einde van een serie. Goed geschreven en met veel vaart. Heel jammer dat er niet meer van deze schrijfster is vertaald. Well, crap. I accidentally deleted my review, which was blessedly short ('blessedly short,' in the context of my usual reviews and comments, meaning 'a paragraph or so'). Basically, I loved this trilogy. It's not the best I've read, but I'd place it somewhere among my favorites. This third and final book brought it to a bittersweet but satisfying conclusion. I worried, about halfway through the book, that the ending would be rushed, compressed to fit into the remaining pages--I even wondered, briefly, whether there was a fourth book that I'd overlooked. But that was just everything building up to the conclusion, and so it all came together nicely without feeling forced. One thing I feel was done particularly well was the relationship between Ki and Tobin/Tamir. It evolved in a believable, realistic (if 'realistic' can be used, in light of events) way; and if it was lacking in some way, this was still handled far better than in many other stories. The characters were memorable--good, since I have trouble enough keeping track of secondary characters, even interesting ones--and their interactions kept my attention as much as the actual events. So, looks like I managed to regenerate my previous, tragically lost review. Hopefully I haven't forgotten anything. Well, crap. The gripping conclusion a thrilling fantasy adventure trilogy filled with necromancy and bone-chilling magic from the bestselling US author of the Nightrunner series. Long ago Skala was ruled only by Queens, in accordance with prophecy. King Erius, fearing that the prophecy might be evoked as a means to dethrone him, had most of his female relatives assassinated. When his sister fell pregnant with twins, two of Skala's wizards were warned by the oracle and took steps to conceal the girl who survived her twin brother at birth. Now Prince Tobin has been revealed as Princess Tamir, the true heir to the throne - and Skala has never been more in need of a true Queen. But at the age of fifteen Tamir is deeply confused by the new identity that has been thrust upon her, and feels betrayed by the wizards who tricked her and all her friends. Her demonic twin still haunts her, but now that the spell concealing her identity has been broken, the bond between them is severed. Brother is no longer under Tamir's control, and he is bent on vengeance for the sins committed against him. Meanwhile Erius's son Korin, Tamir's beloved cousin, has claimed the throne and declared her a traitor. But as the country slides into civil war the people begin to acclaim Tamir as their saviour. Tamir strives to avoid conflict, but Korin's weakness and Tamir's honour will lead them to the ultimate clash of wills. No s'han trobat descripcions de biblioteca. |
