Apunta't a LibraryThing per saber si aquest llibre et pot agradar. No hi ha cap discussió a Converses sobre aquesta obra. I liked it! Daft, funny, ridiculously stupid in places. Good if you can take it in the manner I hope it was written in. Mothership is very light reading, but it moves at a quick pace and has just enough humour and action to make it enjoyable. While the setting is not very plausible, the plot is about as original as most computer RPG's out there, and some of the jokes get quite repetitive, it is a light heroic tale that will no doubt enterain a lot of its readers - as long as the expectations are right. This is an entertaining little romp, if you like your Science Fiction lite (and I mean ultra-lite). The story is set in a large colony ship that has been sailing between the stars for hundreds of years. Only a small group (known as the Elite) retain knowledge of humanity's origins and the secrets of technology - the rest of humanity is kept in a state of medieval feudalism, lacking all knowledge of what lies outside the spaceship. To them, the Elite seem to be magicians whose power is arbitrary and unchallengeable, until one day, their magic fails. Its not the most promising of settings, but the tale that unfolds is well told, with humor and brevity. This is not cutting edge stuff, but it is entertaining - at its heart an adventure tale with few pretensions. Sense ressenyes | afegeix-hi una ressenya

Shrewd, devious, cunning and a born liar - but as a Court Jester, Jad's a disaster. So when he's sent off with the warlord's son, Prince Kender, on a spying mission, he's hoping that his less desirable traits will actually save his life. Since the Day of Wonder, when all the electric lights stopped working, there have been rumours of unrest in the neighbouring domains . . . and no one has seen hide nor hair of any of the Elite, the ruthless technocrat class that have ruled Urba for centuries. What most of the inhabitants don't realise is that their world of Urba is actually a giant spacecraft, an ark built more than a thousand years ago to save as much of the Earth's population as possible before the sun went nova. The Elite were originally the ship's crew, and as a social experiment, the ship's population were forced to live a pseudo-mediaeval life . . . and as the centuries passed, the Elite became decadent, corrupt and cruel and the truth about Urba became hidden. And now Jad and his courageous - if thick - Prince are about to find out what happened to the Elite - and what's happening to the people of Urba . . . No s'han trobat descripcions de biblioteca. |
