S'està carregant… The Varieties of Religious Experience (1902)de William James

No hi ha cap discussió a Converses sobre aquesta obra. I really found this boring Easy to follow despite being a classic. Provides a very thoughtful and interesting context for the writings and experiences of extraordinary people in the history of religion. It is suitable for believers and those who are not believers. William James is a deep thinker whose primary agenda is to try to understand his subject, and who uses argument sparingly and humbly as a tool to further that goal. Much of the book is carefully selected first-hand accounts of religious experience. You will find wisdom here, not the setting up and knocking down of straw targets. It was a pleasure to read. This book had a huge influence on me in college, so I must put it on my list. I can't remember enough to say anything too detailed, but his insights into why people are religious are fascinating. American pastoral counseling movement, and beyond its role in spawning the psychology of religion, it remains a book that empowers individuals and inspires readers with erudition, insight, and kindness. No discussion of current religion - from the fundamentalist revival to the New Age movement - is complete without an appreciation of this groundbreaking work. The original treatise is worth reading and I found it enjoyable to a point but this 2012 edition by Oxford World's Classsics contains just an inordinate quantity of the tiniest scriptface that is too tiny to read safely or comfortably
William James is both pragmatic and charismatic (
