I liked this book because it gave an idea of what the fast food industry is all about. The rhyming of each line of the book helped to give it a fast pace, causing the reader to read faster and faster. The drawings also perfectly aligned with the text, such as the rain of fries over a burger for "Pile on fries, by the ton." It was also engaging as it gave pictures of animals eating fast food, which humors most everyone. The text was also enjoyable as there were many repeating parts, such as on the pages with the "Fast food! Gulp! Gulp!" and all of the eating and animal noises. Overall, the main message of the book seemed to be that 1) A person does not have to follow the crowd all of the time, and 2) it is good to slow down and enjoy the world that is around you. I also enjoyed the hint of when a person slows down, they eat healthier. I'm guessing the point of the book is to make a statement about fast food versus healthy food. The focus is all on the fast food however, until the punch line on the last page spread, so I'm not sure how much of the message comes across. It's a very fun book nevertheless. Fun and fast! Review: easy book to read and easy context to understand. Its also a quick and funny book to read and child would find it entertaining. Especially when you read it fast and in different voices.
Class: can use to teach children about team work and about the food industry.
Age: Primary-Intermidiate
Media: Media is watercolors and pen and ink
Genre: Fantasy. The book is fantasy because we have animals who can cook and a manager that is a lion. Since we know that is not possible it makes this book fantasy.
