I felt there were a few plot holes with dealing with the demon and the main character not actually being the Debussy she was looking for, but overall I really enjoyed it and it was a really fast-paced read for such a large book. ( ) Despite being an avid reader I gave up on this book countless times. So much so that it took me two years to finally finish it. I will say this, it was the most simultaneously scary and boring thing I have ever read. I didn't know I could be bored out of my mind while also afraid and now thanks to this book I do. That is the only thing I got from reading it, thank god its over. don't bother reading it, I only finished out of stubbornness. Everything Kate Mosse has written I've read or soon will. Many authors create a single character & ride that one character to the end, mot Mosse. She creates memorable characters that you get wrapped up & invested in. As much as her characters this is a complicated story that's rich in historical detail as are all her books. If you like Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series you'll love these. Split between the 1890s and the 1st decade of the 21sr century, this is the story of American Meridith, who travels to France to investigate the composed Debussey, as well as find out more about her birth mother's family. [return][return]The characters of Hal and Julian are the weakest rendered - whilst the "motivation" of Constant is well understood (he's being driven mad by syphilis), though Julian's intensity to investigate the original tarot cards is less well defined - is he nuts, greedy or driven by something else? And his relationship with his nephew Hal is a little too bitter. The stories of two women separated by more than a century are brought together by a series of visions that are related to the tarot and a small church, known as a Sepulchre in the grounds of the Domaine de la Cade. No s'han trobat descripcions de biblioteca. |
