Tricia and her older brother never get along. He drives her crazy. When her grandmother tells her about wishing on shooting stars, she gets a perfect idea. She wants to do anything better than her brother. Growing up with two brothers I could definitely relate to this story. I think any child with siblings would enjoy this story. The illustrations add to the humor of the story. Big brothers are a pain, but you have to love them. ( )

Richard, our narrators older brother, beats her at everything. Even a rhubarb eating contest. After wishing on a star, she beats her brother for longest spins on the carousel. But she fell off after and wakes up in her bed. She finds out her , brother carried her home and got a doctor. The two finally end their constant rivalry, and spend the night sleeping outside with their Bubby.
I thought this story was really cute, and accurately shows what it's like to have siblings, and how they'll be there for you when it really matters. ( )

She had problems with her older brother. He could do everything better than his younger sister. She wanted to figure out what she can do better than her brother. She found a way to beat her brother. They eventually formed a bond over this. It is a great story for a sister and a brother. ( )

This a wonderful story, and I can relate to this because I have siblings. This story is about a young girl who was jealous of her older brother Richie. Even though Richie is older, he does everything better than her, and teased her. She doesn't understand why her grandparents and her mom like Richie so much. She always wanted to beat her brother in something, but can't. However, she made a wish that she'll be able to do something better than Richie. When they went to the carnival she did so many attempts of everything and became successful. That's when she injured herself and got stitches. She rode the merry-go-round longer than Richie but fell off because she was dizzy. She was so happy and proud that she beat Richie, so their relationship changed at the fair. I believe the theme is family because Richie still loves his sister, and their relationship became stronger. I know the children would enjoy this story because it's relatable to kids with siblings. Trisha lived with her parents, her brother, and her grandparents on a farm in Michigan. Her grandma knew everything, but she didn't know how awful Trisha's older brother, Richard, was. Richard was nice when grandma was with them, but once grandma left, Richard turned into a real bully. He ould do just about everything better than Trisha and Trisha just wanted one thing she was better at than Richard. So one night, when Trisha and grandma were looking out at the stars, a shooting star passed and grandma made a wish. Trisha didn't know wishes made on shooting stars would come true, so she waited for the next one and made her wish to be better at something than Richard was. Then the next day a traveling carnival set up in their field and Trisha must have ridden the merry-go-round about 50 times and then her brother finally got off. She had stayed on the carousel longer than her brother; she finally beat him at something! But when she got off, she had passed out and woken up in her bed. She fell off the merry-go-round in some soda bottles, but her brother saved her. From that night on, their relationship had changed.

I really enjoyed this story, just like I do with all of Patricia Polacco's stories. Trisha is just like every other younger sister or brother just wanting to be better than their older brother or sister. I definitely would have been able to relate as a younger child because I was constantly trying to be better than my older sister at something. I loved this story of sibling rivalry and I'm sure any child with a sibling can relate to this story as well. ( )
