Excerpt: Sun Jian (155 191) was a military general and minor warlord during the late Eastern Han Dynasty and Three Kingdoms era in ancient China. He allied himself with Yuan Shu in 190 when warlords from eastern China formed a coalition to oust Dong Zhuo, a tyrannical warlord who held the puppet Emperor Xian in his power. Although he controlled neither many troops nor much land, Sun Jian's personal bravery and resourcefulness were feared by Dong Zhuo, who placed him among Yuan Shao, Yuan Shu and Liu Biao as the most influential men at that time. After the coalition disbanded in the next year, China fell into massive civil war. In 191, Sun Jian was killed in battle during an offensive campaign against Liu Biao. Sun Jian was also the father of Sun Quan, one of the central figures of the Three Kingdoms era who eventually established the Eastern Wu state and declared himself its first emperor in 229, whereupon Sun Jian was given the posthumous title of Emperor Wulie (). Born in the Fuchun Prefecture of the Wu Commandery (, present day Fuyang, Zhejiang), Sun Jian was said to be a descendant of the renowned military strategist Sun Tzu, author of The Art of War. He was a civil officer in his prefecture during his youth. When he was sixteen, Sun Jian travelled with his father to Qiantang (, present day Hangzhou, Zhejiang), where they came upon a band of pirates dividing up their spoils on land. Sn Jin jumped on shore with a sabre in hand and pointed in different directions as if commanding a detachment of soldiers to surround the pirates. Seeing...More: http: //booksllc.net/?id=26766… (més)

“All The Hits So Far” by Bradley Hathaway (RELEVANT books) was on my list of must-reads since I first saw it advertised at RELEVANTmagazine.com months ago.

I finally had a chance to pick it up this past week at the Tree of Life bookstore in Marion. When we got back to Warsaw on Saturday night, I started reading some of the included 14-poems to Jess. She stayed awake for 2 or 3 of them and I soon found myself needing to FINISH the book THAT night.

So I did.

14 poems later, I’m a fan of modern-day psalmist, Bradley Hathaway (www.thebradley.net)

The book comes with a 14-track CD in the back that includes each of the 14-poems in spoken-format by Bradley. ( )

A great collection of slam poetry like Manly Man and Hardcore Dancer. A great reminder of the good period of Bradley Hathaway's career before he attempted to sing and steal people's tables. ( )

Bradley Hathaway has a gift of writing in a way that captures exactly what you feel/felt. His poems have a life of their own; everytime I read/listen to his poetry, there's something new that touches my heart and makes me smile/sigh/exclaim/reminisce/etc. Love love love him! ( )
