This book was good except that the author asks the readers to count up all the cats in the book. This would be hard for the age range since the number reaches over 50 cats. The main part of the book is to learn math and be able to count the number of cats on each page. Great math lesson. ( )

Great counting book, with a couple of added twists! LOVE IT! Really like the ending.... not what I was expecting! Betsy Lewin is a great artist and I love her illustrations of animals. Would recommend to primary grade levels.

I really enjoyed this book because it was a very fun, engaging way to present counting to students who are beginning to learn about number sense. First, the author used first person to describe the amount of cats his friends and family had. This immediately would draw in students because it is more personable and exciting to read in first person. For example, the author would say, “I have one cat” or “My neighbor has seven”. Another reason this is a great book is because the actions of the cats and description of what they are doing is something funny to students at that age. Although it is personification of animals that can’t speak or have human-like tendencies, the author draws cats dancing and playing music, sitting at desks in a school classroom, walking a tight rope, and so much more. These silly things make students more eager to read and pay attention to what is going on and remember so that they can count the cats. Finally, this book encourages readers to count using cats as a distractor for plain old numbers. The big idea of this story is that when you have small groups of numbers they add up to something larger. ( )

This concept rhythm book starts with one cat. The speaker then counts up to ten cats, and then adds them up to fifty-five! And then one has kittens! Too many cats!

This book is amusing with the illustrations of ballerina cats and studious cats. The words are quite big and easy to read, with bright pictures. I think this book would be a special hit with children who like cats. ( )

This book reviews counting. The narrator has one cat and his brother has two. His sister has three, uncle has four, cousin has five. How many cats is that? Fifteen cats. Then his friend Gram has six cats, neighbor has seven, teacher has eight, the preacher has nine, and the farmer has ten cats. So how many is that? Fifty-five! But wait, our first cat has some new arrivals, that's too many cats! ( )
