I have red hair, so when I was growing up, people always said I had "hair like Anne of Green Gables." My kids all have red hair too, and my daughter is a dancer, doing a musical theatre solo of a song from the Anne musical, so I thought now would be a great time to finally read the books with her!

It took awhile to get used to the writing and the attitudes of the characters (mainly the adults), I had to keep reminding myself that this book was written 113 years ago!!

I didn't like how Anne was ashamed of her red hair, but I suppose times were different back then.

Anne's character was uplifting and delightful. It really takes you back to childhood when imaginations were King. Her unwavering positivity and excitement for life was refreshing.

I have actually ordered the box set and am eagerly waiting it's arrival so my daughter and I can continue the Anne stories! ( )

I grew up watching the movie adaptation with Megan Follows and always loved it, so it was high time to read the book.

It's a sweet story, and I love how dramatic Anne is. I love that she's an orphan, that Marilla and Matthew are siblings and not spouses; I love Anne's silly feud with Gilbert and her insta-friendship with Diana. I just love the story.

I read this aloud to my nieces (ages 12, 11, 9, 7) and realized there are a lot of passages describing the nature scenes. Many sentences are long and wordy, which makes it a more difficult pick to read aloud. And there are several words included whose meanings I'm unfamiliar with, despite being a life-long reader - which is not a bad thing! It just surprised me, since so many people read this book as children.

Now we're off to watch the movie! [Edit: It had been years since I'd seen the movie and I didn't realize how many differences there were between it and the book. The movie rearranges a lot of things and I now realize I love the book even more!] ( )

Anne of Green Gables by L.M Montgomery is a story about an orphan named Anne
who is sent to the town of Avonlea. This story is set in Prince Edward Island in the fictional town of Avonlea.

Anne is a skinny girl with freckles, fiery red hair and a temper to match. She is very defensive of her hair and always makes sure people know that her name is spelled A-N-N-E not A-N-N.

Anne Shirley arrives at the Green Gables at age 11. She wants to stay there forever but Cuthberts are expecting a boy and are willing to send her back to the orphanage for a boy. Will she go back to the orphanage?

Anne makes many remarkable memories at the green gables such as making a best friend. Her best friend's name is Diana Barry. Diana and Anne have been best friends almost as long as Anne has been at the Green Gables. In a part of the story (As they put it) Anne sets Diana drunk and Diana’s mother Mrs Barry was livid at Anne and doesn’t let Anne see Diana for months till Anne saves Diana’s little sister from a sickness.

When Anne is 16, she goes to a school in Charlotte town to study for a teachers certificate. She gets her certificate in less time than a lot of the people there and gets the opportunity to go to university but she declines it after the sudden death of 1 of the Cuthbers.

This is a good book in my opinion. I would suggest this book for ages 10 and up. This was an OK book, but I don’t think that I would read it very often.

Anne Shirley has left Redmond College behind to begin a new job and a new chapter of her life away from Green Gables. Now she faces a new challenge: the Pringles. They're known as the royal family of Summerside - and they quickly let Anne know she is not the person they had wanted as principal of Summerside High School. But as she settles into the cozy tower room at Windy Poplars, Anne finds she has great allies in the widows Aunt Kate and Aunt Chatty - and in their irrepressible housekeeper, Rebecca Dew. As Anne learns Summerside's strangest secrets, winning the support of the prickly Pringles becomes only the first of her triumphs.

Mrs. Rachel Lynde lived just where the Avonlea main road dipped down into a little hollow, fringed with alders and ladies' eardrops and traversed by a brook that had its source away back in the woods of the old Cuthbert place; it was reputed to be an intricate, headlong brook in its earlier course through those woods, with dark secrets of pool and cascade; but by the time it reached Lynde's Hollow it was a quiet well-conducted little stream, for not even a brook could run past Mrs. Rachel Lynde's door without due regard for decency and decorum; it probably was conscious that Mrs. Rachel was sitting at her window, keeping a sharp eye on everything that passed, from brooks and children up, and that if she noticed anything odd or out of place she would never rest until she had ferreted out the whys and wherefores thereof.

"Marilla, isn't it nice to think that tomorrow is a new day with no mistakes in it yet? … Oh, don't you see, Marilla? There must be a limit to the mistakes one person can make, and when I get to the end of them, then I'll be through with them. That's a very comforting thought."
"There's such a lot of different Annes in me. I sometimes think that is why I'm such a troublesome person. If I was just the one Anne it would be ever so much more comfortable, but then it wouldn't be half so interesting."
Marilla felt more embarrassed than ever. She had intended to teach Anne the childish classic, "Now I lay me down to sleep". But she had, as I have told you, the glimmerings of a sense of humor – which is simply another name for a sense of the fitness of things.
"Oh, but it's good to be alive and to be going home," breathed Anne.
But if the path set before her feet was to be narrow, she knew that flowers of quiet happiness would bloom along it.
