cartoonists like Sergio Aragones and Al Jaffee (both of whom are autodidacts and accidental artists) talk about what they do, esp. because few of the artists represented see their work as a means to an end. More than attempting to extract and analyze "what's funny", this is a collection of interviews with people who don't take themselves too seriously, who have navigated the business of art without compromising their sense of humor. Thank God they didn't invite Dave Berg though, that guy sucks...
The only bummer about this is Federico Fellini's introduction, which lacks any humor and charm. For someone with such playful visual/musical aesthetics he sure comes off as a blowhard.
"If brevity is the soul of wit, it follows that overstatement can be the death of it." -Al Jaffee ( )
