I was just about ready to toss this old door-stop but then realized, hey, I live in an OLD house! This book is a good starting point, but the interweb is going to be much more useful. ( )

This is the classic Reader's Digest complete Do-it-yourself Manual brought up to date for the 90's to comply with more modern standards and tastes in décor.
No expense has been spared in this edition, with full colour splashed onto every single page throughout the entire book. In fact, to avoid any potential embarrassment the publishers were obsessive enough to add colour shading effects to a line drawings that made it in!
Out with the avocado suite and in with the walk-in shower room and wood burning stove, neural magnolia painted walls and (if you can squeeze it in) a home office.

Keen-eyed readers may notice that this is in fact a much revised and updated version of the earlier Reader's Digest New D-I-Y Manual published in 1987. But, nonetheless for that it has served me very well over the years, especially on electrical wiring jobs and plumbing.

A very handy book; about the size of a Church Bible and sturdy enough to stand on in case you don't have a set of steps handy! ;) ( )

If you own a house, you should really own a copy of the big yellow book. No matter what you need to build/repair, there are probably instructions in the book. I have used to book many time to learn how to do home improvement projects. The instructions are detailed and, along with the pictures, are easy to follow. ( )
