Is there any other guide? Not in my opinion. ( ![]() This has been on my shelf for too long. I'm glad I actually read the whole thing instead of glancing. I'll be rereading this book many times. A short book that must be an essential guide to anyone who wants to communicate clearly and professionally. I hadn't known about it one month ago, but it is a classic work, recommended in all classes on Writing in America. It is written for professional writers; nevertheless, if all you write in English is emails, you should still keep this book handy. It insists on readability and conciseness. I. e. we should prefer the positive sentences and the active voice. We should avoid needles phrases like most, respective(ly), nature, interesting, one of the most, along this lines, literal(ly), etc. It makes clear the use of commas and the required formatting for quotes, parentheses, headings, titles, numerals, etc. Mastering the suggestions made in the chapter Words and Expressions Commonly Misused will make you a both a fine writer and an elegant speaker. Great tips. Nothing is perfect.
Buy it, study it, enjoy it. It's as timeless as a book can be in our age of volubility. (previous edition) ...still a little book, small enough and important enough to carry in your pocket, as I carry mine. The Elements of Style does not deserve the enormous esteem in which it is held by American college graduates. Its advice ranges from limp platitudes to inconsistent nonsense. Its enormous influence has not improved American students' grasp of English grammar; it has significantly degraded it. Té una guia d'estudi per a estudiants
