In an age of media distortion and widespread stereotypes, Christians and Muslims need a greater understanding of each other's faith. What do Christians believe about the Bible? What do Muslims believe about the Qur'an?And what do both Christianity and Islam have to say about Jesus and Muhammad? In this evenhanded and conciliatory book Chawkat Moucarry calls Christians and Muslims to engage in genuine dialogue, urging them to relate to each other with true humility and respect. In a straightforward fashion he describes and compares the central doctrines of Christianity and Islam, explaining key beliefs and debunking common misconceptions.Christians who read this book will learn much about Islam. Likewise, Muslims who read it will discover why Christians are convinced of the truth of Christianity. Sure to provide grist for informed discussions, this rare book is one that both Muslims and Christians can fruitfully study together.… (més)

If you want to read a book that confronts and challenges your prejudices against Muslims, this is it. There will be things said that may irk you somewhat and resist your agreement, but looked at objectively and (I think) with an intent to really discover God's heart in the matter, you just might end up agreeing with Moucarry what you were otherwise unashamedly against.

The book offers a more conciliatory view of the religion of Islam and, without in any way attempting to suggest that it is compatible with Christianity, nevertheless, the author's aim is to (1) provide Christians with a basic understanding of Islam (and vice-versa); (2) to assist in the engagement of mutually friendly dialogue in a way that, for both Christian and Muslim, is consistent with "our respective Scriptures."

What this book emphasizes in my mind is that Christians need not hold aloof other people of differing religious beliefs (including those of no religious persuasion) and that we are too quick to negatively judge and distance ourselves from those whom Christ has also shed his blood. ( )

Purchased as the 'text' book for a Sunday school series at Intl Christian Church. Includes endorsement from on of our guest speakers, Riddell, who has his own book.
