This book was just OK for me - well enough written, but there were few twists or surprises in the storyline and the final "revelations" were quite predictable. Overall, Felix's story was the more interesting and engaging part of the book; the character of Minna, who is grieving the recent loss of her child, was overly stereotyped, exhibiting every potential trait of a bereaved mother that you'd expect to find in a "pop-psych 101" textbook. That said, it was an easy read, and a pleasant enough way to while away a few hours. Recommended for chick-lit fans who like more than just a pedestrian romance. ( )

This book interweaves two stories, one set in the present and one set in the war period in Dorset. The first story is that of Minna and her husband. Minna retreats to a house in Dorset ofter the death of her baby son in a car accident felling guilty and not able to cope with life She is would like to save her marriage which is floundering but is too caught up with her own feelings to realise what is happening with her husband. Minna and her husband discover a skeleton while walking on the beach.
The second story is that of Felix (short for Felicity) who has returned to the village where she grew up. It tells of her childhood, her friendship with David, and the events leading up to a tragedy in 1943 - the death of a negro American GI whose skeleton Minna and her husband found. As Minna and Felix become friends Felix recounts the events that lead up to the tragedy which proves to be a healing experience for the both of them. ( )
