Following the guidance of W. Sidney Allen, the recognized authority on Latin pronunciation, these two cassettes present authentic Latin speech, giving a taste of how everyday Latin might have sounded. The recorded extracts are spread over two cassettes and include many of the cartoon captions, Responde Latine questions, Fabellae, dramatized dialogues, and other short passages of narrative prose and verse that are found in Parts 1-3 of the course. For the Oxford Latin Reader there are longer extracts of prose and verse covering the principal authors of the Golden Age including Cicero, Catullus, Virgil, and Ovid.
