Very disappointing. It's Shakespeare's Midsummer Night's Dream without the poetry or the beautiful language. This is a trite, cliched story with stereotypical characters who are either weeping copiously or giggling uncontrollably. Young adult stuff without the charm or appeal of young adults.

Ralph y Smith llevan varios años compartiendo piso en los bajos del número 31 de Almanac Road, una típica casa londinense de tres plantas. Cuando se ponen a buscar una tercera persona para romper la monotonía, entra en escena Jem, guapa, romántica y soñadora, que rápidamente se convence de que uno de los dos nuevos compañeros está destinado a ser su media naranja.
Todo podría quedar en el típico triángulo amoroso si no fuera porque Smith ha perdido la cabeza por Cheri, la fría y ambiciosa chica del ático, que a su vez le tira los tejos a Karl, el del segundo, que supuestamente vive en feliz matrimonio con Siobhan.
Y por si el asunto no estuviera ya lo bastante enredado, Siobhan se propone recuperar su maltrecha autoestima teniendo una aventura con el primer sujeto apetecible que se ponga a tiro.

This is the third book I have read by Lisa Jewell, and each has been different. Ralph's Party weaves the lives of several people together, culminating in one explosive party. It is easy to get wrapped up in the characters, and we have all met a Smith or a Cheri in our time.

An easy, entertaining read for any occasion. ( )

An easy to read debut by a promising author. I found her later books to be better than this one but it is a good read nonetheless.

Ralph and Smith choose Jem as their new flatmate (in the basement flat) and she soon becomes Smith's girlfriend, but Ralph is in love with her. On the first floor live Siobhan, who feels insecure about her weight and her boyfriend Karl, who has had an affair with Cheri, who lives in the top floor flat. It all gets very involved and soap opera-y and I was glad when it ended. ( )
