This is a story that has withstood the test of time. Meg struggles to find herself as she seems to have lost love. Meg, her genius brother Charles Wallace, and new friend Calvin travel the universe in search of Meg's missing father. Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Who, and Mrs. Which help guide the three children through various physical and mental trials. We follow Meg as she finds how love could be the answer to all her problems. Never heard of this till it came into my possession accidentally. I saw then that it featured in many lists here in LibraryThing. Read it it today and was quite enchanted. One book I hope to remember to pass on to my grandchildren. I enjoyed this book, it was entertaining, but i didn't think it was anything to wrute home about. I found the story simple, the characters flat and the dramatic scenes too dramatic. Maybe I should have read it as a kid. This book is about a girl named Meg Murray: she lives with her mom and dad, scientists, and her little brother Charles. Their dad has been gone for a while on a scientific mission. No one has any idea of when their dad may return. They meet their mysterious neighbor Mrs. Whatsit, who is from another planet and miraculously knows where Meg's father is. With the help of a neighbor boy Calvin, they teleport with Mrs. Whatsit to rescue Meg's father in an attempt to bring him home. "Wild nights are my glory," the unearthly stranger told them. "I just got caught in a downdraft and blown off course. Let me sit down for a moment, and then I'll be on my way. Speaking of ways, by the way, there is such a thing as a tesseract."
A tesseract (in case the reader doesn't know) is a wrinkle in time. To tell more would rob the reader of the enjoyment of Miss L'Engle's unusual book. A Wrinkle in Time, winner of the Newbery Medal in 1963, is the story of the adventures in space and time of Meg, Charles Wallace, and Calvin O'Keefe (athlete, student, and one of the most popular boys in high school). They are in search of Meg's father, a scientist who disappeared while engaged in secret work for the government on the tesseract problem.
