Summary:
This book is about a girl who's parents are divorced and lives with her mom but gets to visit her dad. It is told from both the dad and the daughter.

Personal Reaction:
I really liked this story because my parents are divorced as well and it really helped me relate.

Classroom Extension:
1. This book could help a child who's parents are divorced also.
2. Teaching kids that family is important and all moments with them.

Summary:
In this contemporary realistic fiction book its to story of a little girl who has divorced parents and lives with her mom and gets to visit with her dad. The story is the told from the perspective of both the daughter and the dad. I felt like the book had the underlying message to cherish al times spent with loved ones.

Personal Reaction:
I liked this book because I come from divorced parents and could relate to the little girl. I felt like the underlying message in the story was to make sure you cherish your time with the people you love. I really enjoyed this story.

Classroom Extension Ideas:
1. Give it to a child to take home if they are going through this situation and don't know how to handle it.
2. Somehow incorporating it into a lesson about making life count, but this would probably have to be done with kids just a little bit older.
3. Showing kids how their parents and teachers feel about them.

Summary of Book
This book describes a father and daughter spending their day together. The little girl’s parents are divorced and she only gets to spend one day a week with her daddy. The book is written from two perspectives, the daddy and the daughter. The book talks about the feelings a divorce child goes through when she is with one of her parents.

Personal Reaction
This book reminded me when my daughter was still very young. I figured she wouldn’t miss her father and I being together as a couple because she was so young when we divorce. It was about the age of three and four when she began voicing her feelings about not us not being together. Whenever she came back from her father’s home she would try to talk me into coming with her next time.

Extension Idea
Discuss what divorce is. Ask the students how they feel. Reassure them that divorce has nothing to do with them. Have them draw pictures of their two homes.

I really enjoyed reading this book. Daddy Day, Daughter Day takes readers through the different thoughts between a daughter and a father. Before the book started, the author wrote, "A story of divorce and parenting from both a child's and a father's point of view." When an event occurs in the book, the girl first states her thoughts on it, and then the father's thoughts are right underneath the child's in italicize. I also really liked how the little girl states "I know now that divorce can bring good times as well as bad, and that having two parents who love you, even if the don't live together, is the greatest gift of all." Many children don't look at the positives of divorce. However, this book enables children to see that there are positive things about divorce. The central message in this book is family struggles and divorce.

Summary: The book starts off with telling the audience that the girl lives with her mother. The girl and her father see each other about once a week. When he comes to get the girl, her dog warns her when he is one block away. So the girl is always waiting for her dad outside of their front door. They first go to a secret park. They don't tell anyone where they go so they have it as their secret. At the park, they bond and eat Burger King. After the park, they go to the monkey jungle. However, the little girl gets scared of the monkeys so they leave quickly. After they leave the monkey jungle, they go see a movie at the movie theatre. Lastly, the father takes his daughter to a nice dinner before taking her back home to her mother. They both love spending time together. ( )

Summary:

This short biography is a story written by a father and daughter. They recount a very special day that the two of them spent together enjoying their favorite activities. The father and mother are divorced and the little girl waits patiently for her father to pick her up for a special day. They go for a ride in the father’s convertible, walk around the park, get Burger King for lunch, see gorillas, watch a movie at the theater, and have a romantic fancy dinner. The little girl is sad when there night together comes to an end, but she knows she will see her father again. She’s thankful that even though her parents are divorced, that both of them love and cherish her very much.

Comments (opinions/arguments):

This book was interesting because it was written by a celebrity author, Larry King, and his daughter. I liked that they chose a specific special moment and wrote about their father daughter relationship. I think through divorce, it’s very important for parents and children to continue to build on their relationship even if they don’t live with each other. It really shows children that nothing is going to change and that their parents still love them unconditionally. I really liked that the story held multiple perspectives. On each page it had the little girl talking and the father. The authors made this visible because the little girls written part was in normal font and the fathers was in italicized font. I think this is an interesting way to tell a story because children will get to understand what the parent might be feeling during a divorce. I think it will help reassure children that their parents are struggling with the divorce as well, but know that everything will be OK. I think the main central message of this story is that although divorce is hard, it’s still important to share quality moments with parents because it will help mend the pain that the divorce may be causing. The one thing that I disliked about this book was that the authors used a very similar font color on some pages as the background color. I think this could make it very difficult for small children to read the words. ( )
