Carole Anne is the new student in Ms. Shepherd's class and the class can't wait to meet her and play with her. When Carole Anne finally arrives, she's mean to all of the other students; she pushes people to cut the line, she makes fun of the other students, and she calls them names. Nobody likes how mean she is, especially not the twins Moffie and Morgie, so they go home to tell their parents. Their parents suggest that they talk to Ms. Shepherd, but Morgie and Moffie don't want to be tattletales. The next morning before school, all of the students got together to talk about Carole Anne and agreed not to play with her. Ms. Shepherd noticed that the students were leaving Carole Anne out and asked the class why they weren't including her. They all told Ms. Shepherd about what Carole Anne was doing and she suggested everyone think about it over the weekend. One morning when Morgie was looking for rocks for Show and Tell, he heard someone crying and found Carole Anne crying because she was lost. Morgie offers to help Carole Anne find her way home and asks if she wants to help him find rocks. Along the way, Morgie finds out the real reason why Carole Anne was so mean to everyone. Morgie and Carole Anne decide to do Show and Tell together and Carole Anne tells the class the reason she's been so mean: she was afraid nobody would like her. Then they all become friends and school is fun again.

This was a great read. I think this would be a great book to read to younger students to show them to be kind to everyone. This story also shows students that there are two sides to every story, which emphasizes how important it is to be nice to everyone. This would also be a great book to read if a new student is coming soon to make your students aware of how the new student may feel and how important it is to be kind. ( )

When Ms. Shepherd told her students that a new girl is coming to school the next day, twin pups Morgie and Moffie and the other students immediately start to create plan of welcoming activities. When the new students Carole Anne, arrives, she is not like what the students expected. She does not smile when the students welcome her, throws Morgie's Welcome card on the floor, and shows no respect for her new classmates. The students are Disappointed and frustrated, and the children make a plan to resist this bully. They decide to leave her all alone. One day, Morgie finds her crying alone; he does not leave her. Instead, he listens to her and discovers the reason for her hostility. Morgie helps her new friends who has changed schools frequently to apologies to her friends and explain to them why she was so nasty. The children immediately forgive her and the story end with lovely huge and happy friends. I think this is an excellent book to teach children the best way to deal with bullies, and make friends. The illustrator successfully illustrates s the world of primary school by using colourful and soft paintings on handmade watercolour paper. He also perfectly conveys the feeling of the new student on her first day. ( )

Carole Anne is a new student in class. The class is very excited to have a new friend joining their class, and they can’t wait to play with her. When Carole Anne arrives, she is mean and nasty to the other students. She pushes people in line, calls people names, and draws on other people’s masterpieces. No one is fond of Carole Anne and the twins (Morgie and Moffie) go home and tell their parents that school is not fun anymore. The class finally decides to leave Carole Anne alone – they will not talk to her or acknowledge her mean remarks. Then, one day, Morgie is looking for rocks to make dinosaur eggs out of for show and tell when he sees Carole Anne crying. Morgie reaches out to Carole Anne and helps her find her way home and lets her help with the dinosaur eggs. At show-and-tell Carole Anne explains that she was afraid the other students would be mean to her, so she was mean first. Then, the class understands Carole Anne a little better, and she stops being mean to everyone. Soon, the whole class is friends with Carole Anne.
I really enjoyed this book. I think it is a great book to read to elementary school students. One issue that is addresses is bullying. Carole Anne is being mean to the students, but the students are not retaliating. I think that is an important lesson to teach my students. I also liked how Carole Anne explained why she was acting out. It can be very hard to join a new school, especially in the middle of the year. I think this would be a great book to show students that they need to be patient and kind to a new student who may be struggling. ( )

The class makes a welcome card for a new student, Carole Anne, and wonder what she will be like. When Carole Anne comes to school, she is rude to everyone and pushes her way to the front of the line for recess. Over the weekend, Morgie finds Carole Anne crying behind a bush and asks what is wrong. Carole Anne says she is lost and Morgie helps her find her way home and becomes friends with her. On Monday, Carole Anne explains that she was mean to everyone because this was her second new school and she was afraid no one would like her and want to be her friend. After this, everyone in the class becomes friends with Carole Anne. ( )
