Thus was a good, solid book that I enjoyed, but not a great book. It would be a 3.5 if I could do that. I especially enjoyed the personality of the main character, she reminded me a lot of myself. This is a good "closed room mystery" and I would definitely recommend it. ( )

I had trouble engaging with the story and I don't really know why. It's well written with a clever story and the characters are not "stock". When I finished this book I realized that the author had used a particular technique to tell the story and create the mystery. She did it in a well-reason & skillful manner as well.

The protagonist, Hanne Wilhelmsen, is the basis for a series of books. This is not the first book in the series and while it isn't critical to following this story it may spoil a surprise in the earlier books.

I'm going to give another book by this author a try and see if maybe my problem was with the writing style of the author or if it had to do more with where my mind was at. ( )

I wasn't certain at first that I was going to enjoy this audiobook...the narrator had a rather strange manner of speaking, although her voice was lovely and clear. However, this is a translation from the original Norwegian, and as the story went along (it is told in first person), I began to rather like that. It actually enhanced the feeling of *place* in the novel, which is extremely important. I also liked the irascible and cranky main character of the novel, as well. She is a very good "imperfect" character.

As to the mystery element of the book, it was well-played and intriguing. I'll definitely be looking for more by this author. ( )

Assassinatos acontecem, personagens são apresentados, suposições são feitas, mas tudo é tão vago e apressado que é impossível se envolver com a leitura. Isso, com o acréscimo de uma protagonista repulsiva e uma escrita que trata a condição da protagonista e os personagens com intolerância e preconceito, resulta em uma leitura desagradável e irritante.

Há uma coisa boa, que é a forma como a autora retrata o ambiente. Mas se for pra ler mais de 200 páginas pra ler descrição de atmosfera, tem livros que fazem isso melhor e entregam uma narrativa bem contada.

TL;DR: uma perda de tempo. ( )
