The silent presence of the fox in the story adds dramatic tension that, because it’s interpreted from the pictures, is perfectly suited to each child’s level of comprehension. Tafuri’s illustrations are bold and simple with a primary color palette. They tell the main story while subtly hinting at the source of the “bad dream”. C‘s favorite part is the kindness shown by the ducks to the chickens in helping them cross the stream.
