Cap No hi ha cap discussió a Converses sobre aquesta obra. A great detective book published in 1996. Set in South-Central Los Angeles with plot locations covering the whole city, the Private Eye Aaron Gunner’s social orbit looks out of control but author Haywood keeps everything locked down tight. Technically speaking, a well constructed narrative with enough tangential characters to distract the reader yet enough realistic dialogue and action to keep things moving. Published by Putnam, this is a good looking book from a writer I’d never heard of before but wish that I had. Familiar locales were: Oakwood, Venice; Original Tommy’s Hamburgers, Rampart; Our Lady Of Sorrows Catholic Church, South Los Angeles; The Fabulous Forum, Inglewood; Fontana, Calif.; LAPD, Southwest Division. The Private Det. is a black Viet Nam Vet and the story engages domestic abuse in the black community. ( ![]() Sense ressenyes | afegeix-hi una ressenya

When his ex-fiancée is murdered, Gunner vows to take vengeance on Los Angeles For more than a decade, private detective Aaron Gunner has regretted letting Nina Hillman go. They met on a city bus while he was on his way to the Los Angeles Coliseum for a football game, and by the time they were through talking he had long since missed kickoff. He proposed to her quickly, only to get cold feet and cancel the wedding. After less than a year, she married another man. Eleven years later, Gunner is still alone, and Nina's house is a crime scene. The homicide detectives tell Gunner that Nina's husband has been abusing her for years. They assume that today he simply went too far. As he seeks justice for his long-lost love, Gunner uncovers a citywide chain of domestic abuse that he could have saved Nina from, had he been man enough to marry her. It's too late to protect her now. Revenge will have to do. No s'han trobat descripcions de biblioteca. |
