( ![]() 4.5 ⭐️ Despite the controversy on some of the events in this book, I very much enjoyed this. I was enraptured from page one and honestly, there was no point in this book in which I felt bored. It held my attention the entire time I read it—I was happily surprised by this. I knew the general premise of the story before I went into it, but I never would have imagined how hard it was for James to get through something like this. I will say, though, that there are some trigger warnings that people should be aware of if you want to read this. They aren't always at the forefront of the story, but they do pop up frequently. Besides that, I thought this book was wonderful and I feel that I can understand addicted people a bit better now. I was intrigued by this book and I even watched James Frey with Oprah - but then I was disillusioned later on to find it was fiction dressed as non fiction. Overall, though, interesting read. An engrossing page turner! Couldn't put it down. Personally I don't care that this turned out to be a work of fiction; it is still a good read. I'm actually more impressed with him not actually going through all that and doing research on it than if it would have been a true story. The part about when he went to the dentist actually made my mouth hurt. It was tough to read at times, and certain characters pissed me off, but it was well worth it. James Frey wakes up on a plane, with no memory of the preceding two weeks. His face is cut and his body is covered with bruises. He has no wallet and no idea of his destination. He has abused alcohol and every drug he can lay his hands on for a decade - and he is aged only twenty-three. What happens next is one of the most powerful and extreme, and honest, stories ever told. His family takes him to a rehabilitation centre. And James Frey starts his perilous journey back to the world of the drug and alcohol-free living. His lack of self-pity gives him an unflinching, often searing honesty. A Million Little Pieces is an uncommonly genuine account of a life destroyed and a life reconstructed. It is also the introduction of a bold and talented literary voice. No s'han trobat descripcions de biblioteca. |
