Absolutely charming historical. Low angst, well-drawn characters who communicate. Also, a thing that is unusual in historical romance, admissions from people that being a duke kinda sucks and that being a woman of noble birth kinda sucks even more. Nice treatment of long-term grief/ptsd and learning disability. Close to a 5, but a couple of things seemed too contrived (even for romance) so it did not quite make it, but I really loved the read. ( )

Though the plot is unrealistic, I was happy to put that aside and just enjoy the characters. Quinn is able to create memorable characters and the Dowager in this is one of them. Looking forward to reading the next book. ( )

Still, I can't say I didn't enjoy it. Julia Quinn's books are so fun to read. (
