'You can't teach an old dog new tricks.' The Young Pups don't want to visit Grandpa - he is so boring, and only ever wants to talk about the olden days. They don't believe Grandpa was ever young or fun, so Grandpa sets out to prove them wrong, and show them that there is life in the old dog yet! No s'han trobat descripcions de biblioteca. |

I found a very hard time connecting with the characters and liking them. The grandchildren that were portrayed were very bratty and mean, and I did not like the way they treated their grandfather. The behavior presented by them was painted in a positive, humorous light, although I found it to be sad and cruel. For instance, when they say that they “don’t care” when the grandfather tells his stories, I felt sorry and disappointed. Needless to say, I think these characters were not developed properly and failed to gain my admiration.
The plot was also far from admirable, where its biggest dissatisfaction was the abrupt ending. When I turned the final page, I was very surprised to have reached the end, as I expected more- including a grander and more believable resolution between the grandfather and his grandchildren. I would have appreciated if the plot would further, and perhaps if there was an added element be that conflict or suspense. I think any added element would benefit to this lacking story.
The writing was also lacking, as it failed to engage or hook me. It was also very disorganized and did not flow so smoothly. For example, the grandfather was excited and proud to share stories throughout the beginning and middle of the tale, but then suddenly becomes disgruntled. This change was odd and was not supported by transitional elements that could have aided the issue. The main idea of this book is to respect your elders and realize that even an old dog can learn new tricks, however I find it immensely difficult to connect with it on any other level. ( )
