Now available in a newly reduced trim size and at a lower price, this is the first volume to include all the existing work by Thomas Jefferson, the third president of the United States and father of American architecture. The three-star rating is a mix of two dimensions. The photography is absolutely beautiful and stunning. If it were only a photography book, it would merit at least four and a half points. On the other hand, the text is just dreadful. This starts with countless typos (principle instead of principal; College of William of Mary) and a compositional style that is beneath most teenagers (think: My last summer vacation). I had to stop multiple times and recharge. I simply could not take the punishment of reading on. For want of an editor ...

The author's grasp of 18th century history is found wanting, which results in questionable judgments. A clearer understanding of Jeffersonian and Palladian influences might also have helped. As it is, buy it for the pictures. ( )
