I was not comfortable with this book as a child. I couldn't figure out if there were or were not bears on the mountain and it confused me. I did like the resourcefulness of hiding under the big pot. ( )

This book is about a boy who goes across the mountain to retrieve a pan from his, but ends up in the dark forest alone. He hears noises, and believes it bears. Since he has been gone for a long time, his family comes to get him and discovers that there are indeed bears. ( )

This is a book that is full of action. The only issue is that the pictures are not extremely telling. It almost seems like a book our parent's parents would have read and has illustrations exactly like that. If I had student who loved the outdoors then I would recommend it, otherwise I am not sure. ( )

Jonathan's mother sends him over the mountain to borrow a stew pot from his aunt . . . but what if there are bears? This very short story has a similar feel to the Little House books. I think beginning readers just making the jump to chapter books would still enjoy it. Older readers will find it too simplistic. ( )
