The pictures in this story are FANTASTIC! The story follows a chick who is smaller than the other chicks. Each pages features a farm animal commenting on the physical characteristics and with each comment, the wee little chick shows an act of triumph.

This is a great book to use when discussing self confidence, self worth, differing abilities, or bullying.

Alternatively, this stories illustrations are so well done that it also serves as a great book for discussing farm animals. ( )

In this picture book, the wee little chick is constantly told of things that are too small or not perfect about her. The chick doesn't let this get to her and succeeds in running the fastest on her "tiny, little legs" and got the biggest seed with her "tiny little beek" among other things. In the end, the mother chicken tells the other animals to leave her wee chick alone because she is just big enough.

I loved the underlying message: That it doesn't matter what other people think of you, you shouldn't let it hold you back from achieving what you want.

As a class I would have students discuss why we shouldn't discriminate against those who are different from us. ( )
