The book is divided into three sections the first is called Ocean Waters. The second is called Life in the Ocean. And the third is called Along the Coast. The book is a question and answer format so it is meant to be used in your classroom as open inquiry question and answer. I could use this book in the classroom to talk about the underwater biome or before a unit about the ocean. What Makes and Ocean Wave is a GREAT book for kids interested in all aspects of oceans. This book is set up in Question and Answer format which makes it a great teaching tool. Sample questions include, "How do you measure the height of a wave, How high was the highest ocean wave on record?, Are waves dangerous?, What are tsunamis?" The answers are 2-4 sentences and easy to read and understand. The book also covers a wide variety of information surrounding oceans and sea life. I used this book in a Kindergarten lesson plan after we created a KW chart where the students brainstormed what they already knew about oceans and what they wanted to learn about oceans. I also used the index of the book with my students to look up information about the things they wanted to learn. I revisited this book multiple times over the week to provide information to my students and to also inspire some of their writing as we created nonfiction books about oceans.
