The Rite is outlined without mentioning Death or unction at all.
The minister greets the Sick (and others present) -- "The peace of the lord be with you always". Place the blessed sacrament on the table and join together in adoration.
The greeting is followed by sprinkling with Holy Water. (Sacrament of penance is omitted, yet the Penitential Rite is conducted, simply asking for forgiveness, and proceeding to confession....)
Partial text of four Psalms is included:
Psalm 23: 1-6 -- "The Lord is my shepherd..."
Psalm 34:1-9 -- "I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise shall ever be in my mouth."
Psalm 63:1-9 -- "O God, you are my God whom I seek"
Psalm 84:1-4, 9-12 -- "How lovely is your dwelling place, O Lord of hosts!"
Psalm 103:1-6, 8, 10-13 -- "Bless the Lord, O my soul; and all my being, bless his holy name."
In my experience, a few of the older believers do find some comfort here.
This little book remains in my Chaplain Kit.
