Oh John Green... We all, by now, have figured out how you love to use the same characters over and over... But I honestly think that's okay! We all want to see our favourite characters come together or exist in a slightly different setting; that's why fanfiction and AU's were invented. As long as there's a compelling story behind them, I would not mind seeing Alaska/Hazel/Margo again.

However... Well this story failed to meet my expectations.

Now mind you, I loved The Fault In Our Stars and I fairly enjoyed Looking For Alaska! However, having said that... I think Paper Towns is severly overhyped.

It started off strong. Margo's revenge, albeit a bit uncreative, was fast paced and fun to read about! But that's where my fun ended...

The main body of the book seemed to drag on for eons! It seemed that it was just about nothing! I was really hoping for a good mystery, but the only part I liked in that whole clue-searching bit were the scenes in the abandoned house. They were set up with a vaguley creepy athmosphere, which I enjoyed.

Now the ending little road trip I, once again, liked. It even got me to laugh a few times, however the ending itself was SO anticlimatic.

I was expecting everything, anything! The solution to a mystery called Margo Roth Spiegelman, but I got a disappointing fuck you. She really just wanted to run away just because.

John, that is not in any way a fulfilling ending!! I was expecting to much more than that and I am SO disappointed. ( )

Oh John Green. Your ability to write characters that tug at all my emotions is annoying. I get all caught up in your books and stop doing things I'm supposed to and instead I just sit with your books and your characters and immerse myself into their worlds. I think you might be one of my favorite young adult authors. I loved the way the characters in this one were all trying to figure out who they were and where they wanted to be as they finished high school and explored new relationships. Another book that will sit with me for a while. ( )

I did not particularly care for Margo, but Quentin and his friends were enough. "Paper Towns" is a fast easy read with an interesting mystery and some moments of light-hearted hilarity dashed with uber metaphysical musings. ( )

The narration of “Paper Towns” spends too much time in Quentin’s head, which, to be sure, is an entertaining place

Here's what's not beautiful about it: from here, you can't see the rust or the cracked paint or whatever, but you can tell what the place really is. You see how fake it all is. It's not even hard enough to be made of plastic. It's a paper town. I mean look at it, Q: look at all those cul-de-sacs, thoses streets that turn in on themselves, all the houses that were built to fall apart. All those paper people living in their paper houses, burning the future to stay warm. All the paper kids drinking beer some bum bought for them at the paper convenience store. Everyone demented with the mania of owning things. All the things paper-thin and paper-frail. And all the people, too. I've lived here for eighteen years and I have never once in my life come across anyone who cares about anything that matters.
Margo was not a miracle. She was not a fine and precious thing. She was a girl.
I like finding stuff out about her. I mean, that I didn't know before. I had no idea who she really was. I honestly never thought of her as anything but my crazy beautiful friend who does all the crazy beautiful things.
What a treacherous thing it is to believe that a person is more than a person.
Nothing ever happens like you imagine it will," she says. "Yeah, that's true," I say. But then after I think about it for a second, I add, "But then again, if you don't imagine, nothing ever happens at all.
