Just another great book by Green ( )

After a night of adventure with the enigmatic Margo Roth Speigelman, Quentin spends his final high school weeks trying to work out where she has disappeared to. I’ve enjoyed the other John Green books but this one seemed, somewhat ironically given the titular concept , a little 2-dimensional to me. ( )

Sorry John Green, I just can't get into your books. It's a mixture of, not being invested in the characters, possibly going into a reading slump and just can't get into it.

This brilliant, engaging book was just what the doctor ordered. It's fast-pace mystery as Quentin Jacobsen goes on the ultimate prank night with Margo Roth Spiegelman, and then she disappears. Quentin along with his sidekicks Ben and Radar the tackle this mystery while trying to go to the prom and graduate high school.

The story line is believable enough for a movie. I liked Quentin enough to root for him to find Margo.

Part 1, the strings. was about the ultimate prank night, which may give future pranksters all kinds of naughty ideas. The story jabbed in unexpected and outrageous (in a good way) way. Part 2, the grass, the mystery begins in unravel. It pales in comparison to Part 1 and ..... 3! I loved three. Part 3, was the vessel, as the protagonist and sidekicks go on a road trip. This is some of the most entertaining writing in a long time.

And the ending? I'm pleased with the ending.

This is a totally different kind of book to earn a 5 star rating in my book, pun intended, and well-deserved.

I like the wit and intelligence in the writing and the dialog like I do all John Green books. This is why I always give them at least 3 stars. HOWEVER, I also felt like I needed more of an ending, like with all John Green books which is why they rarely get 5. I usually can let it slide but I was really disappointed to not see Lacey get more closure in the end. I felt like she deserved, after all of her guilt, to have more of a final conversation with Margo than the brief phone chat. I just really felt for her (probably my own history with debilitating guilt) and I thought she earned more. Of course, I guess they all did, but I had a strong connection with Lacey for some reason and I just felt bad for her.

So, basically I took away two stars simply because I wanted Lacey to have more closure. I know. It's a bit extreme. ( )

The narration of “Paper Towns” spends too much time in Quentin’s head, which, to be sure, is an entertaining place

Here's what's not beautiful about it: from here, you can't see the rust or the cracked paint or whatever, but you can tell what the place really is. You see how fake it all is. It's not even hard enough to be made of plastic. It's a paper town. I mean look at it, Q: look at all those cul-de-sacs, thoses streets that turn in on themselves, all the houses that were built to fall apart. All those paper people living in their paper houses, burning the future to stay warm. All the paper kids drinking beer some bum bought for them at the paper convenience store. Everyone demented with the mania of owning things. All the things paper-thin and paper-frail. And all the people, too. I've lived here for eighteen years and I have never once in my life come across anyone who cares about anything that matters.
Margo was not a miracle. She was not a fine and precious thing. She was a girl.
I like finding stuff out about her. I mean, that I didn't know before. I had no idea who she really was. I honestly never thought of her as anything but my crazy beautiful friend who does all the crazy beautiful things.
What a treacherous thing it is to believe that a person is more than a person.
Nothing ever happens like you imagine it will," she says. "Yeah, that's true," I say. But then after I think about it for a second, I add, "But then again, if you don't imagine, nothing ever happens at all.
