This second book in a series is almost as much fun as the first. Liss is settling into her new life in her hometown, helping to run her Aunt's Scottish Emporium, testing her skills as a dance teacher and slowly re-establishing a relationship with high-school sweetheart Dan.

Liss has invited the cast of Strathspey, the Scottish dance group she starred in, to spend a couple of nights in Moosetookalook. When manager Victor is killed by mushrooms (he was highly allergic) hidden in a scone Liss is determined to find the killer. Yet, she has misgivings because this probably means that one of her old friends is a murderer and that is hard to accept.

Lots of fun, some dance lore, some Scottish lore and more strong character development.

Looking for the next one in the series. ( )

Great cozy read from Kaitlyn 'Dunnett' - I'm sure that pun is intended !
Protagonist, Liss, very real and very likeable. One fall in a performance with her Scottish Strathspey dance troupe prematurely ended her career, but not her interest in her dance family. Having arranged a tour stop in her Maine hometown, she anticipates nothing but reunion. But someone else has a different outcome in mind...
Multiple red herrings throughout the read, quirky character traits, and romantic triangles kept this reader both reading and guessing.
Definitely enjoyable hours spent with the content reaching a satisfying conclusion!

Addition to the Scotland Reading CHallenge 2013 list. ( )

The second in Kaitlyn Dunnett's Liss MacCrimmon series was very enjoyable, even better than the first. Liss, formerly a professional Scottish dancer, has come home to Moosetookalook, a small town in Maine's western mountains, to help run her aunt's Scottish goods store after a knee injury ended her dance career. She's arranged for her old company to give a performance in the nearby college town and is looking forward to a reunion. But during the reception, the group's manager dies suddenly. When the death proves to be murder, all the troupe members are suspect. The handsome State trooper investigating asks Liss for help, and she believes that the best way to help her friends is to find the real murderer.

Likable characters, authentic setting, and an ingenious plot made this an entertaining, quick read. Dunnett has devised the best method for escaping a kidnapper that I've ever come across. I hope we'll hear a lot more about Liss MacCrimmon and her friends in Moosetookalook, Maine. ( )

Liss MacCrimmon is excited to have her former dance troupe in the greater Moosetookalook area. The manager of the troupe turns up dead after eating a scone filled with mushrooms. Liss had been very careful to make sure that the food served contained no mushrooms as she was well aware of his allergy, as were other members of the troupe. Who wanted him dead? Are there irregularities in the troupe's finances? There are lots of questions which need to be answered. Liss is happy that there is a new investigator on the scene. It's bagpipe-playing Gordon Tandy. While the mystery itself is fairly predictable and is longer than needed, the characters, the cat, and setting of this series are so delightful that the series has become one of my favorites. Dunnett provides just the right amount of humor to provide a little comic relief without making it unrealistic when the scene grows intense. I'm looking forward to the next installment. ( )

Kaitlyn Dunnett started writing the Liss MacCrimmon series after she decided to combine her love of all things Scottish and her love of writing. The series has three books so far "Kilt Dead", "Scone Cold Dead" and "A Wee Christmas Homicide".

Liss MacCrimmon is excited about seeing her old dance troupe "Strathspy" when they come to perform in a town close by. Liss had performed with this group for 8 years, prior to her knee injury which ended her dancing career. After their performance a murder takes place and everyone is a suspect, even Liss.

Although I liked the book I think it is a bit long winded. I was able to zero in on the murderer at approximately the half way mark. I still enjoyed the chase and the events that led up to the capture. No big blood, guts and gore just a good, cozy mystery. ( )
