It is always fascinating to read an authors first novel. Elantris was a thrilling adventure. I loved the political intrigue, and twists throughout the book. The world building, and character development is strong. I had a hard time putting this book down when i had to adult. It's rare that I read stand alone books, but I enjoy the completeness of this story. The full scope of what happen with all their characters, discovering their full personalities, and fates was so rewarding in the end. I would have never predicted the ending based on how the story begins. I was a bit surprised at how much I liked this fantasy novel. It had a very interesting world/magic (or was it?) structure, many layers of action (some of them truly horrid), and characters with a bit of depth. Still, unsatisfying in several ways, particularly the climax event which I didn't understand at all. Very enjoyable reread. A very interesting and unique fantasy that is a refreshing change from the usual sword and sorcery and quest that pepper the genre. Sanderson obviously did quite a bit of world building and developed a fascinating magic system that I would love to learn more about. The plot was mainly political, which I enjoyed. There were some hiccups in characterization which showed that this was the author's first book. A very engrossing read.
The author's skill at turning conventional fantasy on its head produces a tale filled with surprising twists and turns and a conclusion both satisfying and original. A cut above the same-old, but hardly a classic. A surprisingly satisfying, single-volume epic fantasy that invokes a complex, vibrant world. The intrigue and excitement grow steadily in this smoothly written, perfectly balanced narrative; by the end readers won't want to put it down. This a book that if you haven't read already, it should be high up on your list of books to read next. While the steep learning curve and the slow pacing can be a little frustrating at times, the compelling characters and the intriguing mysteries make it so hard to put this book down.
Elantris was built on magic and it thrived. But then the magic began to fade and Elantris began to rot. And now its shattered citizens face domination by a powerful Imperium motivated by dogged religious views. Can a young Princess unite the people of Elantris, rediscover the lost magic and lead a rebellion against the imperial zealots? Brandon Sanderson's debut fantasy showed his skill as a storyteller and an imaginer of baroque magical systems to be fully developed from the start. No s'han trobat descripcions de biblioteca. |

Okay, I didn't expect Hrathen.. in general. He was a ass for literally the entire 2/3 of the book.. I hated his character (in a good way). I didn't expect him to have such a change of heart towards the end, which also leads me to say, what-the-actually-fffff DILAF!! You b*stard. Also, I LOVED Sarenes attitude throughout this book, she's clearly my favorite.
Also, Elantrians are zombies through out the majority of the book!! Until the end, and you see things wrap up.
Okay I'm done. I didn't really have much else to say. I overall enjoyed the book and gave it a 4 star rating!
