Orlando (1929) és una biografia imaginaria i un viatge per la historia. El protagonista no solament viu amb intensitat una dilatada etapa que va des de l'època elisabetiana fins als temps actuals, sinó que a mitja novel·la es transforma misteriosament en una dona i esdevé la protagonista d'aquesta narració fantàstica. L'agilitat amb què l'autora va saber trenar aquest joc d'enginy i d'ambigüitat és una mostra excellent de la seva millor literatura i també de la seva gran capacitat fabuladora i imaginativa.
