I had fun revisiting my still-favourite Vancouver Art Gallery exhibition from 2008. The write-ups from Seth and Art Spiegelman are things of beauty. ( )

The catalogue doesn't match to the real thing, though that's hardly a surprise, but the pictures in here do capture the essence and presentation of some of the large and/or 3-dimensional exhibits that were present alongside prints and other more traditional artistic presentations.

The works are divided into sections by media and each piece is given a colour photo and short (page or two, usually) description written by an expert (the books details each contributor's background) alongside. It's a good exploration of a very extensive area of visual art. If anything, it can feel a little too surface level for someone who really wants to delve into particular areas, such as anime or video games, and it really functions as more of a survey of influential works. It's a good introduction to the material inside, and a good book for piecemeal reading. ( )
