The Great Hunt (The Wheel of Time, Book 2) (Wheel of Time, 2) (edició 1991)

This is dragging a bit. I think it is something I might have enjoyed when I was in my early 20s, but after I consumed so much sword and sorcery fantasy with AD&D in the mid-80s, this is kind of played for me. I'm not interested in the world-building or the magic system or any of that. The characters are okay, but they are kind of stock and stereotypical.

OTOH, it's an easy read, despite the hefty length. I find myself reading, but not really paying much attention. Despite my inattention, I'm really not missing anything.

The final chapters had me gripping the book so tight my knuckles turned white. Incredible story telling. ( )

I remember when The Great Hunt was first released in mass-market paperback format. It was so thick that if you looked at it funny, the spine would break. Slowly, the pages would leaf out of the book, one by one. So yes, I got this on Kindle. No damaged spine!

The story progresses onward with some plot twists. The Seanchans' culture is fascinating in a sick, repulsive way. I can't wait to see how their interactions with others proceed. A reader does have to keep focused as this book has so many different paths it is following, with the main characters splitting up to go on separate quests. Still, I can't wait to see what happens next.

The series is highly recommended for fans of fantasy but must be read in order. ( )
